Study in China from Thailand
Thai students can compare Chinese universities across business, technology, Chinese language, health and creative fields, but programme fit matters more than a general university ranking. Start with teaching language and the current admissions page.
How Thai students usually apply
- 1 Choose a degree and confirm its teaching language
Shortlist programmes rather than university names alone. Check the faculty, campus, language of instruction and whether the programme accepts applicants with your school qualification.
- 2 Prepare school and identity documents
Bachelor's applicants commonly provide a Mathayom 6 certificate and transcript; postgraduate applicants provide a degree certificate and transcript. Ask whether your grading system needs an explanation.
- 3 Compare direct and scholarship routes
A university admission application and a government or university scholarship may have different forms and deadlines. Record the portal, reference number and required uploads for each route.
- 4 Plan travel and the student visa
After receiving the admission package, check which visa type and entry documents the university requests. Do not book irreversible travel before the visa and registration instructions are confirmed.
Documents to prepare
- Mathayom 6 certificate and transcript for bachelor's entry; bachelor's degree certificate and transcript for master's entry.
- Passport pages, a recent photograph and the university's current application form.
- Recommendation letters when required by the programme or scholarship.
- A study plan, portfolio or interview may be requested for selected creative, business or research programmes.
- The Foreigner Physical Examination Form when listed; follow the university's current test and validity instructions.
- Written confirmation of whether translation, notarisation, legalisation or authentication is needed for Thai documents.
Language routes to compare
- Chinese-taught programmes generally ask for HSK or an accepted university language assessment; the required level varies.
- English-taught programmes may require IELTS, TOEFL, an English-medium school record or an internal test.
- A one-year Chinese programme can help with daily life and future degree applications, but it should be evaluated as a separate admission route.
- Business, trade, tourism and hospitality, engineering, computing, Chinese language and health-related fields are worth investigating where the university currently offers them.
When to start
- September is the main intake; some universities and language programmes also offer spring entry.
- Degree deadlines often fall between January and May, with earlier dates for scholarships or specific faculties.
- English or Chinese language tests should be booked well before the programme closes.
- Keep time for document translation, medical checks, visa processing and arrival arrangements after admission.
Questions Thai applicants ask
Can I apply with a Mathayom 6 certificate?
Many universities accept upper-secondary completion documents for bachelor's entry, but equivalence and minimum-grade rules are set by the university and programme. Ask before paying application fees.
Is HSK required for every programme?
No. English-taught programmes may use a different language requirement. Chinese-taught degrees usually require HSK or an accepted assessment.
Should I study in a city with direct flights to Thailand?
Kunming, Guangzhou, Xiamen and other cities may offer convenient travel, but compare programme quality, language, total cost and campus location first.
Can scholarships cover all costs?
Coverage varies by scholarship and can include only part of tuition, accommodation or living costs. Read the current funding notice and do not assume every expense is covered.
