Requirements vary by university and programme, but most international applications ask for a similar set of documents. Prepare scans early — some documents take weeks to obtain or notarise.

Translation and notarisation
If your documents are not in Chinese or English, universities usually require notarised translations. Some countries also require authentication or legalisation of the notary. Start this early — it is often the slowest step.
The Foreigner Physical Examination Form
Many universities and visa applications require the standard Foreigner Physical Examination Form. It is normally completed by a doctor and must be signed and stamped. Check whether the university accepts a form completed in your home country, or requires the examination in China after arrival.
Submitting
- Upload clear scans (PDF is usually preferred); name files clearly.
- Keep the original documents — you may need to present them on arrival.
- Check the format and size limits of each portal before uploading.

What not to worry about
Not every document is required for every programme. Undergraduate and non-degree applications usually need fewer documents than doctoral applications. When in doubt, ask the university’s international admissions office directly.
