China is a major destination for computer science and engineering study, with strong programmes at many universities and a large tech industry for internships and careers.
Where to study
Many of China’s leading universities offer computer science, artificial intelligence, software engineering and related fields. A large number of Project 985 / Double First-Class universities have strong CS faculties — browse our university library and filter by city, then check each programme’s official page.
Language of instruction
- English-taught CS master’s programmes exist at many universities — usually require IELTS/ TOEFL or proof of English-medium study.
- Chinese-taught programmes are more numerous and often cheaper — typically require HSK 5 for master’s level.
Typical admission requirements
- Bachelor’s: high-school diploma; sometimes maths/physics background and an entrance assessment.
- Master’s: a bachelor’s in a related field, transcripts, 2 recommendation letters, a study plan.
- PhD: a master’s, a research proposal and (usually) a supervisor’s support.
- English programmes: English test or English-medium proof.
Costs
Tuition varies widely by university, city and programme. English-taught and professional programmes are often more expensive. Verify the current fee on the university’s official page — VisChat does not publish fee figures because they change yearly.
Careers and internships
- China’s tech sector offers internships in major cities (Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hangzhou).
- Check your visa rules before any paid work or internship.
Requirements, tuition and programme lists change. Confirm on the university’s official admissions page, and see our university library for options.
