Before you apply
- Shortlist 3–6 universities and specific programmes
- Check entry requirements (language, degree, exams)
- Note each deadline and whether an application fee applies
- Register for HSK/IELTS/TOEFL if needed
- Request transcripts and recommendation letters

- Passport (valid well beyond your stay)
- Photos (white background, digital)
- Diploma/certificate + transcripts
- Language certificate
- Recommendation letters
- Study plan / personal statement
- Physical examination form
- Notarised/translated copies where required
Before you fly
- Visa issued; admission letter + JW202/JW201 in hand
- Accommodation arranged or confirmed
- Insurance confirmed
- Flights booked (refundable if possible)
- Copies of all key documents (digital + paper)
- University contact details saved
Arrival week
- Register with the university
- Complete temporary residence registration
- Get a local SIM card
- Open a bank account
- Apply for the residence permit (X1)
- Health check if required
- Set up payment apps
Ongoing
- Track your residence permit expiry
- Renew before it expires
- Keep your documents safe
