Government scholarships in China come from national, provincial and municipal levels. They are the main official funding routes for international students and are applied for through official channels only.

What government scholarships usually cover

Eligibility (general)
- Non-Chinese citizens, in good health.
- Appropriate academic background for the level applied for.
- Language requirement met (HSK for Chinese-taught, English test for many English-taught).
- Some schemes have age limits and country/region conditions.
Applying
- Apply through the designated route (embassy, university or agency) — not through paid agents.
- Meet the scholarship deadline (often earlier than the general admission deadline).
- Submit accurate documents; errors delay or disqualify applications.
Avoiding scams
- Legitimate government scholarships do not require large payments to agents.
- No one can “guarantee” a scholarship. Be cautious of anyone who claims to.
- Always verify on official government/university pages.
